I Love The Avengers

It should come as no surprise to you that I loved The Avengers. I'm very enthusiastic about it because it's just so much fun. You get to see Hulk try to pick up Thor's hammer (SPOILER: He can't) and you get to see the one thing that can withstand a Thor Hammer-blow (SPOILER: Cap's shield.) It's a blast. Good for Joss Whedon. Converging and assembling all those heroes has got to be a lot harder than it looks.

Worst: Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (but he's not really even that bad).
Best: Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (KACY LOVE DISHEVELED SENSITIVE TYPE IN RUMPLED BLAZER.)

Of course it's got me thinking about dressing up my family as The Avengers for Halloween. It's always problematic though. The kids can be anything but what can I pull off? There's just nothing I can do that won't come out gross. Obviously I look exactly like Robert Downey Jr. but anytime a woman puts on a fake pointy beard you get into gross territory. The Black Widow is the only girl Avenger but they haven't invented the Spanks yet that I would need for that costume. It's just so hard for me to express myself at Halloween through a Super Hero costume. I don't think it's fair.

  1. It was so, so, SO good. My husband and I keep talking about it and will probably see it again this weekend. The only other movie I saw multiple times in the theater was Mamma Mia!, and the only other movie my husband saw in the theater was Back to the Future, so this is rare that we want to go again. Joss Whedon truly is a genius. It was so well done, we were genuinely laughing throughout the whole movie and I didn't roll my eyes or feel annoyed, which has never been the case with action movies for me! One of my favorite lines was when Ironman told Hawkeye, "better clench up, Legolas." Okay, I'm done raving about it, because I could go on, and on, and on...

  2. The bit about resembling RDJ but getting into gross territory had me laughing at my computer. I feel your pain--I have three boys who are obsessed with superheroes. We did superheroes for Halloween last year and I had to take a lot of license with Wonder Woman to be decent. I think you could get away with being Samuel L. Jackson's avenger. I know he was the worst, but he wears all black which is very slimming. I have a long black rain jacket I could mail you that would be perfect (no, you don't know me) and all you need is an eye-patch and some guns. No facial hair required!

  3. Hulk! Not being able to lift Thor's hammer!! One of my fave parts! IronMan has some super lines! Oh man, it was all good... every bit. My hub went to the midnight release, came home, and said, we are taking the kids after school - its that good. Im glad I listened to him!

  6. I was expecting Captain America to casually pick up Mjolnir not knowing about its enchantment and everyone being shocked. I love that he can lift it and that it cannot break his shield. I also loved Cap's line about there only being one God, and how he uses "Ma'am" when addressing women.

  7. Also, I know this is probably everyone's favorite part but Hulk ape-thrashing Loki around like a towel was magnificent. Tristan is still a little shocked by it.

  8. Just put on cutoffs and a honey wig and go as barefoot Pepper Potts. Done and Done.

  9. My favorite line was the hulk saying, "puny god..." And also any scene that had Mark Ruffalo in it. And also all of Captain America's chivalry. And I could keep doing this for a while. It was awesome. Every single second of it.

  10. Slap on some leather patches on the elbows of that rumpled blazer on that sensitive soul, and. . . YEAH.

  11. I exclusively dress as men from the 80's with mustaches for Halloween. It's very freeing. My biggest successes have been Cap'n Lou (my husband was Cyndi Lauper. Talk about a good sport) and Weird Al.

  12. Be the hammer.

p.s. I haven't seen it yet because, despite my love of all things super hero, and everyone saying it's good, I can't get past how stupid Captain America was. Did I miss something in that movie? Cause it was literally the dumbest movie I have seen in years. My husband and I actually didn't watch the end, because the games on the iPad were much more interesting.
