Of course, again, always, consistently, forever, still--awesome. Yes. Why is he so good? I don't know. I just love him. See, he's the kind of rock star I hope I would be--earnest. But I'm afraid I would hide behind irony and inaccessibility.
It's cool to have your favorite little obscure groups that no one knows about and sometimes we look down on rock bands that have mass appeal but I think groups that appeal to masses are usually better. That's why they appeal to so many people. At least it's true about Bruce Springsteen. My biggest concert regret is that I've never seen him live. If Christian wanted to be reckless and fly me to LA for a Bruce Springsteen concert I wouldn't dread it. I would be happy. That's how much I love Bruce Springsteen. Maybe you didn't know that about me.
I really like Bruce Springsteen's new album. Rolling Stone critics worship it, but they get accused of worshiping The Boss a lot. (I do too.) Less generous critics say it rocks hard but borders on self-parody. I hope people say that about me when I'm 62.

You and Christian should fly here and go. I am sad that having a new baby is preventing me and Bruce's #1 fan Neil from going. His concert is the best I've ever been to (and I've seen Britney and P. Diddy) Seriously though, it was totally awesome and you should go.
ReplyDeleteWrecking Ball IS good. My initial favorite song is American Land.
Melissa - I thought Neil was more of a Natalie Merchant kind of guy. A Bruce concert with you guys would rock.
ReplyDeletethere is something so comforting about a group with mass appeal, which is why i automatically judge anyone who says that they hate, say, U2. there must be something wrong with those people. my coworker is going with her mom and dad to see bruce when he comes to dc next month—another reason why bands with mass appeal are so great. fun for everyone!
ReplyDelete...which reminds me, we went as a family to see alison krauss and robert plant a few years ago, and at the end my mom said, "well, i liked the song from 'o brother where art thou'!" i guess led zeppelin doesn't hold as much mass appeal as i thought?
ReplyDeleteChristian - How dare you? I'm glad I checked the comments on this post so I could defend my honor.
ReplyDeleteSan Jose, April 24. Think about it. :-)
I am, despite Hannah's protestations to the contrary, not at all up on popular culture - at least I haven't been since about 1962. But I do know who Bruce Springsteen is and the song I can recall was one that I enjoy hearing - so I guess I can understand the love.
ReplyDeleteBut the concerts - listening to the cds in the comfort your own home or car is vastly preferable to me. But if you come to LA for a concert, we'd let you stay in our guest room!!
I don't understand people who don't love The Boss. Have they not heard The Rising? or my personal favorite... Tunnel Of Love? I would LOVE to see him live.
ReplyDeleteHe is your biggest concert regret? That's huge. You need to remedy that.
ReplyDelete(I will say that about you when you're 62.)
I was thinking about this post yesterday, and trying to think of what is his best song. What say ye?
ReplyDeleteI've seen The Boss in concert about 6 times and he's amazing. Best concerts I've ever gone to. Make it happen; you won't regret it!!
